Tomatoworld can once again operate safely this new growing season. From the hands of Marco van der Velden, managing director Berg Hortimotive, we received two brand new Tube Rail scissor trolleys (S series Benomic). It's a nice gesture born out of the cooperation with Tomatoworld.
And how cool that the colours match Tomatoworld's house style so well. We are happy that we will soon be able to show our visitors the beautiful techniques we use from Dutch companies in the greenhouse sector.

Japanese delegation learns about solutions to revitalise horticulture sector at Tomatoworld.

On Thursday 16 January, Tomatoworld welcomed Japanese Ambassador Hidehisa Horinouchi with members from the Japanese First Chamber and the Ministry of Agriculture. They are working in Japan on the revitalisation of agriculture and horticulture and the reconstruction of northeast Japan after the 2011 tsunami. Mayor Bouke Arends was present on behalf of Westland. He emphasised that the municipality of Westland has had a good relationship with Japan and Kochi prefecture in particular for many years.

TOMATOWORLD GETS HEAT FROM NEIGHBOUR

Tomatoworld is artery-connected to its neighbour Kees Stijger for its heat supply at the beginning of December. Kees Stijger is one of 49 Westland companies that purchase geothermal heat from Trias Westland. By building a connecting pipeline, Tomatoworld's heat supply will be filled with 65% geothermal and 35% CHP heat. With the construction of this connection, Tomatoworld's gas connection will become redundant.

Rotterdam to glasshouse horticulture during World Food Festival 2019

As part of the World Food Festival, group 8 of the Hildegardis School from Rotterdam came to Tomatoworld today for a lightning tour. Councillor Karin Zwinkels accompanied the children on their tour of Tomatoworld along the World Food Challenge, in the tomato greenhouse with 80 different tomato varieties and with the tomato tasting.

First harvest hybrid exposure trial Tomato

September this year, new tomatoes were planted for the Hybrid Lighting Tomato project
at Delphy Improvement Centre. In this project, coarse vine tomatoes are grown under a combination of LED and SONT lighting. This week, the first tomatoes were harvested. The main variety is De Ruiter's Merlice. This is no coincidence, as Merlice is one of the strongest and most productive varieties under lights.
