Trias Westland starts supplying geothermal heat
The geothermal project was initially due to be commissioned as early as mid-May, but it had to be postponed due to problems. At a depth of 2.3 kilometres, the small openings had become clogged, allowing the water to only partially drain into the subsurface. Meanwhile, the injection well has been thoroughly cleaned.
At Trias, geothermal heat is extracted at a depth of 2.3 kilometres into the earth. Initially, the intention was to extract at a depth of 4 kilometres, but this turned out not to be feasible. Geothermal heat is now being supplied to 26 market gardeners. The heat from the source is good for about 20 MWth. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of 15,000 to 20,000 households per year.
There will almost certainly be a second geothermal well, in addition to the one that is already there. Participants of Trias who could not use the heat from the first doublet will still have the option of supplying geothermal heat as a result.
